This is the season of sunshine, most days. Recently there have been plenty of thunderstorms on the horizon and lots of sudden and quick sun showers, but still there is plenty of sun! A couple of weeks ago, I decided to take a mid-day trip to the beach. My favorite place to go for sun, sand and shore is the Naples Pier.
As you can see, there is plenty of room under the pier if you want shade, but I prefer to be out on the sand, which is so clean and beautiful. There's beach volleyball and plenty of beach for everyone without feeling like you're on top of the family next to you. It's also a lot quieter than the beaches to the north.
Another thing I love about the pier though is how beautiful the water is there. It's Marco Island beautiful without having to visit one of the resorts. Seriously, you can't fake that blue! Also it's far enough from the Caloosahatchee that you don't get the effects coming out of Lake Okeechobee.
My absolute favorite thing about the pier is how close it is to downtown. You can actually walk there from 3rd Street South, which I've done several times. My first night out in Naples my husband and I went and had dinner at Sea Salt and then he said he had something he wanted to show me, but we had to walk there. He ended up taking me to the pier to watch the sunset. It was so gorgeous and I highly recommend adding that to your agenda for your stay in Naples.
